Tahoe Boho Elopement
M and J contacted us and asked for a boho styled pop-up wedding. They wanted to meet us in Lake Tahoe but were searching for a spot that was more like a locals secret, and less of a trendy tourists filled area. We did our research with the help of team member Heather and our stylist Mari and found an undiscovered gem of a beach.
What's a pop-up wedding, and how is it different from an elopement wedding, destination elopement or intimate/microwedding?
An elopement is a wildly romantic way to take time away from the rest of the world and totally focus on each other. This type of wedding is just for the two of you, and that's one reason to consider hiring a videographer as well as a photographer, so you'll be able to share your experience with your loved ones later.
Destination elopements take it a step farther and literally take YOU farther away to a wedding location that's also where you'll honeymoon. San Francisco, Lake Tahoe and Napa/Sonoma are all popular places on the west coast for elopement weddings and honeymoons. It's very one-on-one and personal. Normally you'll book some kind of a venue or have secured a permit to have your event.
An intimate or micro wedding (same thing) is a larger gathering, usually topping out at around thirty people. These have more traditional aspects and a few more bells and whistles, like a lavish picnic or sit down meal with your guests. It's a paired down version of a big wedding, keeping the aspects you want and ditching the rest. Think the whole garter toss is creepy, skip it! Love the father daughter dance? You can probably work it in.
A pop up wedding can actually be an elopement or an intimate sized event, but you don't rent a venue or need to purchase a permit. The concept is to pick a spot, have everyone show up at the same time, do your ceremony, take a few photos and head on out to your next location whether it's for a meal or an activity, or an extended couples photo sesh.
If you're having a small group, renting a venue that normally fits a few hundred people can seem like overkill, and you're still paying the same rental fee for your smaller guest list. So..where can you get married for low to no cost and without making a reservation three years in advance?
for little to no fee?
1.National parks.
2.Airbnb rentals.
3.Public lands like this beach.
4. A friend or family members backyard.
5. Outside beautiful museums or libraries.
6. A beautiful courthouse or City Hall.
7. Aquariums or zoos.
Hire a wedding team that will focus on making sure that your day flows smoothly, and you can effortlessly walk through each phase, sipping champagne and enjoying every step of the way until you walk down the aisle. An all inclusive wedding package that includes hair and make up is an excellent way to start your wedding day, no matter which variety of nuptials you're planning.
These two wanted to splurge on a kick-ass boho wedding backdrop for their ceremony, and extended photo and videography.
Team members Julia and Will handled their photography and wedding video, and we worked with them for about four hours. Her hair and makeup were done by Jenna Petersen Artistry.
The floral covered peace sign by Mountain Vibes Rentals in Truckee, California and Twist Flowers in Reno was literally a show stopper. Nobody on the beach could believe how gorgeous and fragrant it was. Their little dog Princess kept jumping through it and barking, it was so cute!
They also wanted a private champagne and charcuterie set up with distinctive wood A Frame arch in a grove of aspens. Mari set the stage with her beautiful decor and Platter Fare of Truckee, California created their feast! There was a lot of food for two people so we might have had to "help" them finish it off and my mouth is still watering remembering it. If you're in Tahoe and need heavy apps, their work is exceptional.
Our team was on hand an hour before we arrived with M and J, to set up the arch and picnic, so they just showed up, got married and started the honeymoon celebration. This is the new way to get married. It's easy, stress free and affordable, what's not to love?
